Meeting of Russian Pugwash Committee’s members and Institite research staff with members of BRICS countries’ Pugwash Committees

The International Pugwash seminar “Contemporary Problems of Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament” was held in IMEMO on 27 October 2015. Russian Pugwash Committee’s members, IMEMO research staff, members of BRICS countries’ Pugwash Committees took part in the seminar.

 

Issues for discussion:

  • How the crisesaround Ukraine and Syria influenced the international security agenda and, specificslly, arms control and disarmament agenda?
  • How the unsuccessful 2015 NPT Review Conference influenced the WMD Non-proliferation regime?
  • Impact of the Iran Deal in combination with Russia-West crisis: change of the «potential adversary»?
  • How the current crisis in relations between Russia and the West influences the international security agenda?
  • Is the htreshold of a «hot» war and of a nuclear war lowered by the current crisis?
  • Juxtaposing and touch of Russian and NATO militsry infrastructures as a factor for potential escalation.
  • Role of scientific communities (and of Pugwash network) in times of new Cold-Semi-War.
