Roundtable "Women in Russian Science"

On April 2, 2024 in the Women’s Union of Russia held a Roundtable meeting "Women in Russian Science" with the participation of women representatives of various fields and directions of Russian science from universities and institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The meeting was held as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In her opening remarks, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Russia Ekaterina Lakhova noted the role of Ekaterina Dashkova, the first woman in the world to head the Academy of Sciences. Today about half of the scientists of the Russian Federation are women.

The meeting was attended by Irina Semenenko, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Political Studies of IMEMO, Dr. of Science (Politics). Her speech highlighted the problems of participation of women researchers in the development of social sciences, the continuity of scientific schools in modern political research, and the issues of forming the professional and civic identity of women representatives of the scientific community. The issue of the importance of studying identity as a resource for social development and the role of women in shaping the value foundations of Russian identity was raised.
