On September 30, 2022 the Group on South Asia and Indian Ocean of the Center for Asia Pacific Studies of IMEMO held a Roundtable "The ESG Agenda in India and Russia: the Unrealized Potential for Cooperation".

Amit Bhandari, Fellow, Gateway House India, made a presentation “India’s climate policy goals”. Ivan Shchedrov, Junior Research Fellow of IMEMO, spoke on the topic "ESG-Transformation in Russia: Challenges and Opportunities". Gleb Makarevich, Junior Research Fellow of IMEMO, moderated the discussion. Representatives of Russian business also took part in the event.

The discussion touched upon such issues as the development of ESG strategies in India and Russia, the experience of their implementation and existing problems. The Roundtable participants agreed that the climate agenda in the corporate sector is a long-term trend and pointed to the prospects of cooperation between Russia and India, in particular in the mining and processing of rare earth metals to launch production based on renewable energy sources.
