Roundtable “Strategic Partnership of the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Republic of China within the SCO in a New Era”

On July 24, 2024, Bishkek hosted a Roundtable “Strategic Partnership of the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Republic of China within the SCO in a New Era”.

At the event, the report “China's Strategic Approaches to Central Asia” was delivered by Stanislav Pritchin, Head of the Sector for Central Asia of the Center for post-Soviet Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (History).

The participants discussed the following topics:

  • strengthening mutual trust and neighborliness between member states, as well as cooperation in political, trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural spheres, as well as in education, energy, transport, tourism, environmental protection and others;
  • ensuring peace, security and stability in the region;
  • measures for further development of the SCO;
  • implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project within the framework of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping; the role and place of the Kyrgyz Republic in the international community;
  • results of the SCO summit, which was held on July 4, 2024 in Astana.

Purpose of the event: expert assessment of the SCO potential and prospects for strategic partnership between the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Republic of China.
