
On September 28, 2022 the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in cooperation with the Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU) and Northern Forum (NF), an international organization of northern regions, held a Roundtable “Russian-India Collaboration in the Arctic. Interests and Opportunities”.
The interests of Russia and India in the Arctic, the prospects for the implementation of joint projects in the energy and transport sectors, scientific cooperation and sustainable development of the region were discussed.
Employees of the Group on South Asia and Indian Ocean of the Center for Asia Pacific Studies of IMEMO participated in the Roundtable. In her presentation Junior Research Fellow Elza Shirgazina revealed the main points of convergence of interests of Moscow and New Delhi in the region and outlined the key points for cooperation in the field of scientific research and development of transport and infrastructure projects.
Junior Research Fellow Gleb Makarevich noted the complexities of non-regional actors' activities in the Arctic, the correlation between the specifics of regulating of the international legal regime in the Arctic and India's interests here.
