14The roundtable conference “Russia and the West: the new realities” was held at the Gorchakov Fund on April 18, 2022.
Research Fellow for the Center for International Security of the IMEMO Dmitry Stefanovich commented on the issues of the hypersonic weapons and its presence in Russia.
“Initially, when the “Kinzhal” was demonstrated, it was assumed that its aim was not to defeat the main targets, but to punch holes in the enemy’s air defense. The key issue with the “Kinzhal” is that we have not yet seen its large-scale implementation. We haven’t seen a hypersonic weapon striking against a low-mobility target, but according to the statement of the Ministry of Defense, they are capable of engaging not only the stationary targets, but also the so-called quasi-stationary targets.”
