Dmitry Stefanovich took part in the roundtable conference “Defense Industry 2030. Practical forecasting as a tool for the modern development of industry, legislation and management” and made a report about the prospects of hypersonic weapons, which is becoming one of the significant elements of the current military-technical and military-political agenda, though, in fact, remaining an evolutionary development of technologies and concepts that have existed for a long time.
“The influence of such types of weapons on strategic and tactical calculations remains limited, although, of course, this is still a case. At the same time, there are still the material and the technological limitations for its improvement and spread. In the future we should take into account the possibility of the progress in military-technical cooperation between different countries in the area of the joint development of the new types of hypersonic weapons and in the acquisition of ready-made models. We should not forget the stimulating effect in the sphere of arms control in connection with the introduction of the hypersonic weapons, although it is not appropriate to limit the search for new solutions in the area to one rather narrow category of high-precision long-range weapons.”
