Roundtable on the current situation in Germany on the eve of early elections to the Bundestag

On February 13, 2025, Maria Khorolskaya, Research Fellow of the Department for European Political Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (Politics), took part in a Roundtable on the current situation in Germany on the eve of early elections to the Bundestag on the platform of the “Russia Today” news agency.

The participants of the Roundtable discussed the problems of German unification and shared their forecasts for the upcoming parliamentary elections. During the discussion, they discussed what role the problems of the eastern federal states play in the election campaign? How will Germany change after the early elections and what scenarios of the ruling coalition are most likely? How can political processes within Germany influence Russian-German relations? What are the prospects for the development of the German military-industrial complex? 

The discussion was also attended by:

•    Vladimir Polenov, Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, 1st Class, Vice President of the “Russia-Germany” Society;

•    Vladislav Vorotnikov, Acting Head of the Department of History and Politics of European and American Countries, Lead Researcher of the Institute for International Studies of MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation;

•    Artem Sokolov, Senior Researcher of the Institute for International Studies of MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
