On February 19, 2025, a Roundtable “Crisis of political elites in modern Europe” was held in Moscow at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The event was attended by Arina Preobrazhenskaya, Senior Researcher of the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Political Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (Politics).

In her speech on the topic “French Right-Wing Populists during the Crisis of Institutions of the V Republic – is there a Real Alternative?” she focused on the problems of strategy and tactics of the largest opposition party in France – the National Rally. The expert emphasized that the party leaders are balancing between the desire to enter the political establishment of the country and to retain the opposition electorate.

Sociological analysis of the composition of the National Rally group in the National Assembly indicates a gradual implantation of the party at the local level, as well as the renewal and rejuvenation of party cadres, the emergence of new charismatic politicians.

Arina Preobrazhenskaya emphasized the role of social networks in modern election campaigns.
