Roundtable Discussion "Bulgaria: Internal Politics"

On November 12, 2025, the Center for European Studies of IMEMO held a Roundtable on Bulgaria’s internal policy.

The first presentation, "Internal Policy of Bulgaria: Key Events in the International Context" was made by Ekaterina Shumitskaya, Senior Researcher of the Department for European Political Studies, Cand. of Science (Politics). She highlighted the impact of the rapidly changing international situation in the early 2020s on Bulgaria's internal political processes, in particular – the possibilities and limitations of forming political coalitions.

The issues of formation and functioning of the political elite of Bulgaria were examined in the presentation of Nikita Gusev, Senior Researcher of the Department of the History of Slavic Peoples in the period of the World Wars of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Cand. of Science (History), "Questions without Answers – The Political Career of Delyan Peevski". The significant role of informal institutions in Bulgarian internal policy was noted.

The final report of the Roundtable was a presentation Nikolay Podchasov, Senior Researcher of the Center for European Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (History), "Bulgaria after the Political Crisis of the Early 2020s". It examined the causes, development, and results of the domestic political turbulence observed in Bulgaria in the first half of the current decade.

Verzunova, Research Intern of HSE University; and Anton Demidov, Senior Expert of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, as well as employees of IMEMO: Marina Klinova, Chief Research Fellow of the Center for European Studies, Marina Strezhneva, Chief Research Fellow of the Center for European Studies, Agnessa Avilova, Lead Researcher of the Center for European Studies, Olga Trofimova, Lead Researcher of the Center for European Studies, Galina Ponedelko, Senior Researcher of the Center for European Studies, Stanislav Kuvaldin, Research Fellow of the Center for European Studies, Elena Kharitonova, Head of the Group for British Studies.

On December 9, 2025, the State Academic University for the Humanities held an International Roundtable “Socio-Humanitarian Knowledge in Scientific and Educational Transfers of Countries of Eurasian Space". In the framework of the Roundtable section "Socio-Humanitarian Education and National-Cultural Values of Countries of Eurasian Space" Alexey Zenkov presented a report "Prospects and Limitations of Scientific and Educational Integration in the EAEU".
