On November 20, 2024, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of IMEMO held a conference “Election Year 2024: Socio-Political and Electoral Trends in Countries and Regions of the World”.

In 2024 a wave of elections in the leading countries of the world swept the world. It is no coincidence that 2024 is called “the year of elections”. Their results have a significant impact on world politics, determining the vectors of development of international and national political processes and the global agenda. These election campaigns have a significant impact on domestic and international political processes, shaping the agenda and political priorities for the coming years. The conference is dedicated to analyzing the results and key changes shaping the political landscape after a series of election campaigns in countries and regions of the world.

It analyzed the trends observed in leading countries, where electoral results demonstrate polarization and division of societies on a number of key issues on the political agenda, and in developing countries, where political elites seek to strengthen their positions in response to common challenges. 

The participants discussed current forms of political mobilization, the influence of ideas and ideologies on political processes, possible scenarios for the development of political systems in the post-election period, changes in international and domestic political priorities and development guidelines for states that have gone through election campaigns.
