On March 13, 2013 the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Socio-Political Studies held a workshop within the framework of an on-going seminar dedicated to the analysis of methodological problems of political, social and cultural transformations in the contemporary world. The current series is dedicated to social and political change in Westernand non-Western democracies. The workshop focused on Japanese politics,economy and society. Prof. DmitryStreltsov (MGIMO University) delivered a paper on the evolution of the Japanese political system and on party politicsin contemporary Japan. Dr.Serghei Chugrov (IMEMO and Polis academic journal) focused on Japanese national identity and on thechanges in Japanese mentality. Dr. Elena Leontieva spoke onthe country’seconomic development in the 2000s, and prof. Nobio Simotomai (Hosei University, Tokyo) commented on territorial conflicts and on their reflection in the public and expert discussionsin present day Japan.
