The expiring year 2021 was declared the Year of Science and Technologies in Russian Federation. In the framework of the following program IMEMO organized several scientific conferences.

Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO RAS) hosted the international conference of young scientists "World after the Pandemic: Global Challenges and Development".

In December 2021 the IMEMO held the international conference «The World Ocean - Space for Cooperation and Competition» dedicated to the memory of the Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Sergey Gorshkov, who headed the USSR Navy from 1956 to 1985. The oceanic nuclear missile fleet, which allowed the Soviet Union to pursue an active policy in the most remote areas of the world during the cold war and ensured the national security against the world's most powerful maritime power, was established under his guidance.
