Expert Seminar "Russia-Kazakhstan"

On February 9, 2024, the “Russia-Kazakhstan” Expert Seminar on the topic "Compatibility of Strategic Partnerships: Kazakhstan-Russia and Turkey-Kazakhstan" was held at MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in a mixed format.

Stanislav Pritchin, Senior Researcher of the Sector for Central Asia of the Center for post-Soviet Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (History).

The participants discussed the following issues:

  • Presence of Turkey and Russia in Kazakhstan: comparative analysis and prospects of Russia and Turkey. Are there limits of compatibility of interests of Russia and Turkey in the Republic of Kazakhstan?
  • Are there lobby groups in the Kazakhstani elite (in the authorities, law enforcement agencies, business, science, expert community) that link the realization of their interests with Turkish or Russian directions of foreign policy of Kazakhstan?
  • Organization of Turkic States and the Eurasian Economic Union: opportunities for institutional partnership. Probable positions of other countries of the Organization of Turkic States and the EAEU on this issue.

The event was attended by experts from leading institutions of Russia and Kazakhstan.
