Situational Analysis “Transformation of Eurasian Transport and Logistics Networks: Reality and Prospects”

On October 21, 2024, the Center for post-Soviet Studies of IMEMO held a Situational Analysis on the topic: “Transformation of Eurasian Transport and Logistics Networks: Reality and Prospects” with the participation of InteRussia interns.

Moderator: Eduard Solovyev, Head of the Center for post-Soviet Studies, Cand. of Science (Politics).

  • Alexey Kupriyanov, Head of the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region, Cand. of Science (History), – “Indian and Pakistani View on International Transport Corridors”;
  • Victor Nadein-Raevskiy, Senior Researcher of the Group of Institutional Problems of International Relations, – “Turkish View on Logistics in Post-Soviet Eurasia”;
  • Elena Kuzmina, Head of the Sector of the Center for post-Soviet Studies, Cand. of Science (Politics), – “Prospects of the North-South ITC in the Context of National Interests of the Caspian States”;
  • Dina Malysheva, Chief Research Fellow of the Sector for Central Asia of the Center for post-Soviet Studies, Dr. of Science (Politics),  – “ITC and the Interests of the Global South”;
  • Igor Krishtal, Senior Researcher of the Sector for the Caucasus of the Center for post-Soviet Studies, Cand. of Science (Economics), – “Transformation of the Role of the Northern Sea Route”;
  • Vadim Mukhanov, Head of the Sector for the Caucasus of the Center for post-Soviet Studies, Cand. of Science (History), – “Transport Projects in the South Caucasus”.

The participants discussed the following topics:

  • Current state of the transport and logistics system of Eurasia: political and economic aspects;
  • Prospects of ITC (North-South and West-East);
  • Positions of regional players on the development of new transport and logistics routes;
  • The sanctions factor in reformatting  of ITC of Eurasia;
  • Green energy and prospects of energy transit from Central Asia to the West.

On January 13, 2024, “Interfax” news agency published an article about the next IMEMO annual forecast “Russia and the World” for the current year 2025. The main conclusion the scientists come to is that the “factor-2025” will be the increasing uncertainty of the near future in almost all areas of world politics and economy since the beginning of the year.
