Georgy Mirsky Middle East Seminar "Tradition and Modernization in the Middle East"

On March 11, 2024, the Center for the Middle Eastern Studies held the first Georgy Mirsky Middle East Seminar this year on the topic "Tradition and Modernization in the Middle East".

Alexander Yakovlev, Dr. of Science (History), Chief Researcher of the Center of Arab and Islamic Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke at the Seminar.

The discussion focused on the combination of modernization processes in the countries of the region with the remaining elements of archaic, traditional social, political and economic structures. Following the presentation an exchange of views among the participants of the event took place.
