
On March 17, 2025 in the Academician Inozemtsev conference hall the Center for the Middle East Studies of IMEMO held the next Georgy Mirsky Middle East Seminar on the topic “The Role of Mediation in Contemporary Conflicts (on the Example of the Middle East)”.
Marina Lebedeva, Dr. of Science (Politics), Cand. of Science (Pedagogics), Professor, Head of the Department of World Politics of MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, spoke at the seminar.
Marina Lebedeva is an authoritative Russian expert in the field of world politics, negotiation theory and “soft power”, the author of a number of textbooks, monographs and studies on international relations and problems of conflict resolution. At the seminar, she presented her expert opinion on the specifics of contemporary conflicts and approaches to their resolution, on the nature of mediation, its tasks and necessary characteristics. This discussion seems particularly relevant today, given the increased mediation activity demonstrated by a number of Middle Eastern states.
Seminar participants familiarized themselves with theoretical and practical expert assessments and conclusions of Marina Lebedeva on the nature of mediation, necessary for a fruitful discussion of current processes in the Middle East during the Q&A session.
