On October 7, 2024 the Center for the Middle Eastern Studies held the regular Georgy Mirsky Middle East Seminar “Socotra Studies in Russian Oriental Studies”. The seminar was addressed by Professor Vitaly Naumkin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Vitaly Naumkin, one of the few specialists who have been to Socotra, as well as repeatedly conducted field research there, will talk about his experience of working on the island. One of the key achievements of the Academician is the creation, within the framework of a scientific group, of a written script of the Socotrian language (previously unwritten) based on Arabic script. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session.

The seminar was held in a mixed format.
