On December 4, 2024, an “Asian Seminar” under the leadership of Academician Vasily Mikheev was held.

The topic of the seminar: “Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Japan's Foreign Policy: Challenges and Prospects of the New (Old) Cabinet”.

Speaker: Viktor Kuzminkov, Cand. of Science (History) (PhD Kobe University), Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Japan (2020-2024).

The seminar covered the domestic political processes in Japan that led to the formation of a minority government led by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, considered the prospects for sustainability of the new cabinet in the context of political instability and the need for coalition partnerships. Particular attention was paid to the foreign policy of Shigeru Ishiba cabinet, including its plans to develop diplomatic relations with neighboring countries such as China, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and the United States, as well as approaches to resolving security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.

The event was held in a mixed format.
