50On April 8, 2026, at 2:00 pm, the Asian Seminar named after Academician Vasily Mikheev was held in Hall 03-04.
Julia Melnikova, Head of the Asia and Eurasia Program at the Russian International Affairs Council, Cand. of Science (Politics), author of the book "European Union and China: Partnership, Competition, Rivalry" (2026), presented the report "Realization of China's Interests in the European Direction: National Opportunities and Supranational Limitations".
In the 2020s, the European Union's policy toward China began to take on an increasingly defensive and even confrontational nature. At the same time, individual EU member states continue to demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with the PRC. Beijing's strategic objective is to determine the balance between national and supranational interests within the EU. This determines the corridor of opportunities for realizing China's priorities in Europe.
