On February 9, 2026, Viktor Kuzminkov, Lead Researcher of the Group of Economics and Politics of Japan of the Center for Asia Pacific Studies of IMEMO, gave an interview to Soloviev LIVE on the political situation in Japan and possible changes in defense and security.

In his interview, V.V. Kuzminkov noted that the Takaichi government will continue its policy of lifting post-war restrictions and building up its military potential. Specifically, this year, doctrinal documents will be revised, potentially removing references to the "three non-nuclear principles," since, according to Takaichi, dependence on the American "nuclear umbrella" while adhering to these principles creates internal dissonance.
