9Academician Alexander Dynkin took part in the open discussion at the 18th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club called “The Global Shake-Up in the 21st Century: The Individual, Values, and the State”. He expressed his views on the issues of the climate changes and of the green economy policy.

According to Dynkin, the current energy transition is far from the first case in history. However, the previous transitions featured two peculiarities. “The first one is to be that the dominant energy carrier emerged as a result of inter-fuel competition in relative economic efficiency. The second feature is that the inferior energy carrier never disappeared from the energy balance. This was the economic content of previous energy transitions,” as the expert noted.
“What we see today is an energy transition, which occurs as a result of strong political and ideological pressure. And when ideology is put ahead of the economy, a deficit economy arises. That’s what we see today,” Dynkin added.
