In the current – the 14th in a row since the year 2006 – ranking the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Science (IMEMO) is presented in the fourteen nominations (which is the largest amount among the Russian participants). The Institute took the 33rd place among the 176 world-class think tanks.

So how it became possible to achieve success and what does it mean to the Russian science and Russian policy?

According to the point of view of President of the IMEMO Academician Alexander Dynkin, the high rating of the Institute is the result of the deep research work and the responsible attitude of the several generations of the scientists. The number of the fundamental scientific schools was established in the IMEMO. The forecasts of the world economy and international relations created by the IMEMO became authoritative scientific sources long ago and now are translated into foreign languages. The IMEMO holds international forums, which are open for heated debates. Leading foreign scientists and politicians consider as a honor to participate in them. Suffice to mention the international roundtable conference of the IMEMO and the Forum “Primakov Readings” with the participation of the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov in the Munich Security Conference in the year 2019. The Institute works actively on the “second track”. Due to this it is possible to establish the climate of confidence in the relations with the foreign counterparts, to discuss the most complicated issues and sometimes even to find solutions to them, which is extremely valuable in the practical sense.

Therefore, the high ranking of the IMEMO in the international ranking of the think tanks «Global Go To Think Tank Index Report 2019» of the University of Pennsylvania is the deserved international assessment of the achievements of Russian science. And it is the recently rare case of the match with the official appreciation. By the order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences was classified as the 1st category among 44 other scientific organizations in various fields of expertise in December 2019.
