The meeting of the Coordination Council for the Study of the Innovative Development of China and Russia-China Cooperation for the Division for the Global Problems and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences was held under the guidance of Academician Natalia Ivanova.
The discussion touched upon the topics of the ratio of the Soviet and the Western experience within the Chinese model of development, of the practice of connecting the individual foreign technical achievements in the development of Chinese products and of the validity of Western discontent the Chinese approach to borrowing foreign technology. There was raised the question of the extent to which Russia's entry into the Chinese scientific and technological sphere would limit the prospects of the cooperation with the West in the context of the "new bipolarity". The great interest was paid to the following questions whether the specifics of the Chinese model will be lost within the future development of the country and how significant the benefits created by the China’s policy of the state support of the advanced industries are. There were also the questions whether the dependence of the Chinese economy on foreign markets will increase, how big the connection between the Chinese model of the development, the political system of the country and the national characteristics is, whether the Chinese model appeals to the other countries and to what extent it contributes to China's increasing role in global governance.
