Middle East: Window of Opportunities or a Trap for the Atlantists?

Abstract. We offer our readers a report on the meeting of the international round table held on March 6, 2019 at the Institute of Europe (IE), RAS, devoted to the analysis of the main conflict nodes in the Middle East and North Africa region, as well as the analysis of the threats emanating from this region to the countries of the Euro-Atlantic region. The round table was organized by the “Europe-Middle East” Center of the European Security Department of the IE RAS. The discussion was attended by members of academic institutions (Oriental Studies, the United States and Canada, World Economy and International Relations, Africa, Economics) and the Russian State Humanitarian University (RSUH), representatives of the EU mission in Moscow and a number of foreign embassies, as well as European humanitarian funds. The Director of the IE RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS Al.A. Gromyko addressed the participants with an introductory speech. The participants were welcomed by Jan Dresel, the head of the office of the Hans Seidel Foundation in Moscow. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Sci. (Pol.), Head of the Center A.I. Shumilin (IE).
