Abstract. The existing financial theories fail to explain the causes of the contemporary financial crisis, in particular, of the 2008 crisis. The author claims that in order to understand what affects the current financial system we have, perhaps, to apply a philosophical approach. Such an approach seems to be supportive for comprehending the actual roles of the state and the market in this area. This will, at least partially, help to answer the question of why there are financial crises.
