Global System on the Brink: Pathways toward a New Normal

Abstract. We present an academic report on the results of a joint study of the E.M. Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) and Strategic Foresight Initiative at the Atlantic Council (USA). The paper was edited by Academician Alexander Dynkin, IMEMO Director, and Dr. Matthew Burrows, Director of Strategic Foresight Initiative of the Brent Scowcroft Centre for International Security at the Atlantic Council. The authors (co-authors) of the report are V. Mikheev, A. Arbatov, N. Ivanova, F. Voitolovskii, A. Kuznetsov, G. Machavariani, N. Arbatova, S. Afontsev, I. Danilin, S. Zhukov, S. Lukonin, Ja. Mirkin, V. Trubnikov, A. Fedorovskii, V. Shvydko (IMEMO) and M. Burrows, R. Manning, A. Vadlamannati, D. Lee, M. Check, P. Engelke, B. Bolte (Atlantic Council). The report analyzes main trends and prospects of global economic, social and political development for the period to the year 2035. Russian-American team of authors offer their vision of possible changes in the global economy, international politics and international security in the coming two decades and probable scenarios of global development. The work includes expert assessments of current and future trends inside the major countries acting as global leaders, as well as between them.
