This publication presents regular materials of the scientific workshop "Modern Development Problems", which is held in the Center for Development and Modernization Studies of IMEMO RAN. The questions related to Vietnam's transition from a planned-distribution economy to a market economy started in 1986, to reforms implementation in a socio-political sphere which led to positive changes in the society and in life of population, are considered. The attention is drawn to the laws of development, common for transitional states and confirmed by Vietnam, and to its specific features of the modernization process.
