Abstract. Innovative assessments of different nations' global competiveness are rather contradictory. Traditional approach fails to explain many economic aspects of a competition. The assessments based on the World Economic Forum researches overstate the competitive performance level of countries with developed economy and understate this rate for developing countries, especially for such fast-moving countries like BRICS, including Russia.

Keywords: competiveness, competiveness ratings, Russia, BRICS countries, World Economic Forum (WEF), Russian Ecnomic Barometer (REB)
