Abstract. The essence of the Washington Consensus, its implementation in 1990s – early 2000s, and its influence on Russia's economic policy development during this period is thoroughly examined in the article. Both positive and negative aspects of the Consensus, as well as the role of John Williamson, the English economist who formulated these economic policy guidelines for the Latin American countries, further extended to all developing countries, are specified.
