Abstract. The publication gives an account of IMEMO Academic Council “Conflicts in the Middle East in XXI Century” (spring 2013). The key presentation provides an analysis of the main contemporary conflicts in the region, including the causes of their emergence and possible ways of resolution. The discussion presentations provide more detailed consideration of particular features of the current situation in the Middle East.
