Abstract. On August 25 and September 8, 2019 the regular presidential elections were held in the Republic of Abkhazia. The main contenders were an incumbent President Raul Khadzhimba and opposition representatives Alkhas Kvitsinia and Oleg Arshba. In the second round R.Khadzhimba won with a narrow majority under a low electoral turnout and a sufficiently large percentage of votes “against everybody”. Despite a low rating of the authorities, crisis in the opposition camp gives them some time. However if this opportunity is not used, destabilization in the republic is inevitable.
