Abstract. In January-February 2016 mass anti-government protests began in Moldova because of public discontent with the activities of the ruling “Alliance for the Euro-pean Moldova”. Protesters demand resignation of  the government and holding of early parliamentary elections. At the same time the Western countries continue to support the current government fearing that in case of its change pro-Russian forces may come to power in the republic.
