The Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Socio-Political Studies held a workshop within the framework of an on-going seminar dedicated to trends of social and political change and to methodological problems of analyzing political, social and cultural transformations in the contemporary world. The discussion focused on contemporary political populism. Dr. Grigory Vainshtein delivered a paper on «The populist trend in contemporary Europe».
Researchers from the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Dr. Vladimir Shveitser and Dr. Natalia Plevako) and from IMEMO (Dr. Anna Badaeva, theory of politics section, and researchers from the Centre for European studies and from the hosting Center) contributed to the discussion which focused on conceptualizing the populist phenomena and on its key characteristics.
