The issue’s special focus is on security problems and conflicts in East Asia. They include the East Asian approaches to postconflict peacebuilding (by Japan and China); maritime conflicts and security in the region, including the conflict in the South China Sea and the territorial dispute over Takeshima/Dokdo islands; North Korea’s foreign and domestic policies analyzed through the prism of survival strategies of national elites; and China’s information security model.

The journal’s traditional focus on security issues in the Middle East is reflected by articles on increasingly active and ambitious Turkish policy in the region and the impact of the growing U.S.-Iranian tensions on energy security of the Persian Gulf.

The authors of the issue include colleagues from Russia, Japan, China, South Korea, Finland, and the United States.
