On December 5, 2019 Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of the Russian Academy of Sciences with support of the Delegation of the European Union to Russia, The Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund organizes on Dec.5, 2019 3rd international conference «Emerging Technologies: Societal Challenges and Global Governance» (EMERTECH 2019). The conference will take place in Moscow in IMEMO building.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is advancing, with global markets to grow almost 3 times in the next decade from current $20-25 billion, new technological advancements already in place, and new innovation frontiers in sight. Unsurprisingly, developed and emerging economies are putting strong accent on AI. In 2017 The State Council of China endorsed the “New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan”, Germany unveiled AI Strategy in 2018, the USA released American AI Initiative in February of 2019, Russia adopted National AI Strategy in October of 2019. Other nations including India are also elaborating policy options.
The world is entering a global AI race, with important societal, economic, political and regulatory challenges to be addressed.
Supporting global discussions on the AI, IMEMO and its partners are focusing EMERTECH 2019 at following aspects of AI development:
- Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy for AI.
- AI Regulatory challenges.
- Russian efforts in AI area and international cooperation.
- AI: Issues For Global Governance.
We expect more than 30 leading experts and officials from the Russia and other nations and international organizations to take part in the event as speakers.
