Field of Research
At the present time CEI researchers investigate current trends in European integration and the EU’s role in world economy, analysis of actual economic and socio-political issues in individual European countries (Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Czech Republic and others), study of the Russian economic ties with European states.
Since 2014, Center for European Studies have held three annual conferences with various issues of an individual European country as a subject. Our conferences provide a strong platform to the leading Russian academicians as well as other professionals in order to discuss current challenges of the selected country, it's interaction in different spheres with other actors, it's development prospects, etc. The Center is striving to intensify the international format of the conferences: we were pleased to welcome consular officers of the highest rank to make the opening speech, we invited presenters from other countries in 2015 and 2016. The recent Conference “The limits of German leadership in Europe” was organized with the financial support of the FASO.
Center for European Studies researchers participate in many international projects
IMEMO – EU
Within the Seventh Framework Program of the European Union, IMEMO RAS took part in the international project "European Identity, Cultural Diversity and Political Change". The main objective of this project was development of cooperation between scientific organizations of the EU countries and Russia through the internships, scientific events and joint research.
In 2016, within the framework of the program "Horizon 2020", IMEMO RAS became a participant of the international project “Blue-Action: Arctic Impact on Weather and Climate”. Special attention will be given to the development of oil and gas resources in the Russian Arctic.

IMEMO – Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment
IMEMO takes part in The Emerging Market Global Players (EMGP) project, a collaborative effort led by Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI). It brings together researchers on FDI from leading institutions in emerging markets to gather original data from company surveys and additional research and to produce annual reports based on their findings. Those EMGP reports identify the top multinationals from each of a number of emerging markets, provide detailed information on the key features of the firms’ activities abroad.

IMEMO – Eurasian Development Bank
Since the end of 2011, IMEMO RAS in partnership with the Center for Integration Studies of the Eurasian Development Bank, produce scientific reports on the monitoring of cross-border investments with the participation of Russia and other post-Soviet states. This project is managed by Alexey Kuznetsov. According to «2016 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report», the report «Monitoring of Mutual Investments in CIS 2016» is one of the top 50 analytical papers in the world.

IMEMO – Finpro
In 2016, by the order of Finpro (http://www.finpro.fi/web/finpro-eng/contact/russia), the Center for European Studies collected information about direct investment projects of Russian companies (small and medium-sized businesses). Special attention was paid to Russian venture investments abroad.

Germany
By the proposal of Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography, Alexey Kuznetsov, Anna Chetverikova and Julia Baronina wrote a chapter «Urban industries» for picture-book "Urban Reconfigurations in post-Soviet space".
South Korea
In 2013 Alexey Kuznetsov in cooperation with Korean colleagues prepared a book “Russian direct investment abroad and the Korean strategy in attracting of foreign direct investment”. In parallel, its short version was published in English.
