Vitaly Naumkin, Doctor of Science in History, Professor, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Institute of Oriental Studies, is a Chief Researcher at the Center for Middle East Studies of the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO).

He is a Chair at the High School of Economics; Editor-in-Chief of “Vostok-ORIENS” Journal; Consultant Editor of Journal of Islamic Studies, Oxford. Ambassador of Good Will for the U.N. Alliance of Civilizations.

In 2003 – Visiting Professor, University of California, Berkeley. In 2016–2020 — Senior political advisor to the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Syria.

Author of about 600 publications on History, Middle East and Central Asia, Islam, International Relations, Ethnology, Oriental Philology. Winner of the State Award of the Russian Federation.
