MEiMO (World Economy and International Relations)

IMEMO has been issuing the journal “Mirovaya Ekonomika i Mezhdunarodnye Otnosheniya”, MEiMO, (World Economy and International Relations) since July 1957. The monthly has a circulation of four thousand.

The aim of the journal is to provide comprehensive analysis of the basic trends in the development of the world economy and international relations and, in this context, to study the role of Russia in the world politics and the world economy.

MEiMO is one of the leading academic journals specializing in that area of research in Russia. It covers a broad spectrum of problems studied in the Institute of World Economy and International Relations. Its economic section dwells primarily on the analysis of problems related to globalization, activities of pecuniary institutions, industrial policy pursued by different states, evolution of economic models of development, relations between the state and the private sectors, social problems caused by globalization, as well as ways and means of solving those problems on the international and national levels. The journal regularly places articles devoted to the topical issues of Russia’s economic development where they are analyzed in the context of changes occurring in the world development (privatization, joining the WTO, future economic specialization). Problems of economic development of the leading countries and regional associations of cooperation are also dealt with. Among widely debated topics are problems of economic theory. In the articles devoted to international relations, particular attention is given to the role of international institutions, the systems of global and regional security, as well as to the way they respond to emerging threats and challenges. Changes in the balance of forces on the international arena, foreign policy of the leading countries, regional military-political and political alliances are also given space in the journal. Considerable recent attention has been given to the activities of non-state actors in international relations. The shaping and evolution of Russia’s foreign policy are widely discussed as well.

Much attention has always been given to the problems of the so called Third World states, first of all to the analysis of the foreign and domestic policy of the countries playing an increasingly greater part in the world politics: China, India and the leading countries of Latin America, Arab East, Southeast Asia. Quite often, the journal carries articles devoted to civilization aspects of the evolution of the Third World countries.

Among other things, the journal regularly places book reviews, proceedings of round-tables and conferences, analytical surveys, including IMEMO annual analytical surveys of the basic trends in the world economy. Among the contributors to the journal are researchers from IMEMO, other academic institutes, Moscow State University, departmental and independent research and analytical centers, experts and analysts working for top companies, prominent foreign scholars. MEiMO is published at the expense of NAUKA Publishers.

Editor-in-Chief is A.V. Ryabov.
