Trilateral meeting of Russian, Japanese and American experts


On June 6th a trilateral meeting of Russian, Japanese and American experts was held in Tokyo to discuss problems of international relations and security in the Asia Pacific.

The meeting was organized by the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Japan Institute of international Affairs (JIIA).

IMEMO was represented at the meeting by a team of experts lead by IMEMO President Alexander Dynkin.

Four other members of the team - Deputy Director General Vasily Mikheev, Chief of the IMEMO Center for International Security Alexei Arbatov, sector heads at the IMEMO Centre for Asia-Pacific studies PhD Alexander Fedorovsky and Sergey Lukonin) delivered keynote speeches from the Russian side at panel discussions.

Discussions focused on comparing the positions of the three countries on major issues of international security and cooperation in the Asia Pacific, identifying main threats to peace and stability in the region and possibilities for coordinating policy measures by the three countries to address those threats.
