The April issue of journal “Pathways to Peace and Security” (no. 1/44) edited at IMEMO’s Peace and Conflict Studies Unit is out of print. The issue’s main focus is on environmental security. It also includes analyses of the “human security” and “revolution in military affairs” concepts, the present situation in Transdniestria, the role of Internet-communications in the “Arab Spring” and the anti-war movements in Germany and Russia.

In USA Embassy in Moscow Alexander Fedorovskiy head of section for Pacific studies presented his views on main political, security and economic trends in Pacific Asia. Diplomats from US, Australia, The Republic of Korea and Japan took part in the discussion.
- Was published "North – South – Russia 2012 Yearbook". Special attention is given to continuing debt crisis in Europe, Russia-American relations, conflict around Syria, economic and political changes in China and so on. Different problems are examined both at global and regional levels (including East Asia, South-East Asia, Asia, Latin America, CIS etc.).

Discussion Forum “European Dialogues” (Director of Research programs Arbatova Nadezhda) has held a seminar “Moslem Communities in Russia and EU: Values versus Values”, under the general theme “Russia and EU: values and interests.” Andrei Zubov, Professor of Philosophy at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and D.Sc. (History), Georgy Mirsky, Professor and Doctor of Historical Science at IMEMO; Emil Pain, Professor of the High School of Economics, Director General of the Center for Ethno-Political Studies, have presented their views at the seminar.

The Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Socio-Political Studies held a workshop within the framework of an on-going seminar dedicated to trends of social and political change and to methodological problems of analyzing political, social and cultural transformations in the contemporary world. The current series is dedicated to social and political change in Western democracies. The workshop focused on the political and economic situation in Germany, with special attention to the changes in the political landscape and to the prospects of the German economy. Prof. Irina Busighina (MGIMO University), Dr. Vladislav Belov (Centre for German Studies of the Institute of Europe, RAS) and Dr. Alexei Kuznetsov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, IMEMO, took the floor.

New report on Russian transnational corporations «Global Expansion of Russian Multinationals after the Crisis: Results of 2011» is released at IMEMO, prepared as part of the international study program of TNCs in developing and post-socialist countries (EMGP project of Vale Columbia Center on Sustainable International Investment).
- A report "Afghan Narcotraffiking: A Joint Threat Assessment" by Joint U.S.-Russia Working Group on Afghan Narcotrafficking is out from the EastWest Institute. The report's principal author is Dr Ekaterina Stepanova, IMEMO's lead researcher and head of Peace and Conflict Studies Unit.
- Was published "Russian ODI and FDI promotion strategy of Korea". The study focuses on patterns and recent condition of the increasing Russian ODI since 2000, and Korea’s investment promotion policy toward Russia and its achievements. The study is conducted with many methods including document research, statistical analysis, survey on Russian businesses and experts interviews. Theoretical and statistical analyses on Russian ODI is presented.
- Was published "Economic Governance in the European Union: Institutional and Political Issues". The publication presents the political process of decision-making, decision - taking and implementation as concerns the Single European Market and the Economic and Monetary Union, in which supranational institutions, national governments, transnational corporations, social partners, experts and citizens participate.

IMEMO RAN held the twelfth conference (the first one in 2013) of the IMEMO-NTI joint project on the prospects of attaching multilateral character to the nuclear disarmament process. The particular subject of the conference was “Reviving non-proliferation regime on the Korean Peninsula”.

“KINU-IMEMO International Conference on Korean Peninsula,” joint Russian-Korean conference was held in IMEMO on March 26, 2013. Discussions at the conference focused on to share perspectives of Russian experts and Korean experts, to discuss about the new administrations’ policies toward North Korea, to deepen mutual understanding about Korea-Russia Relations.

A joint Russo-Japanese symposium was held in IMEMO jointly with the Tokyo-based Council on National Security Problems (ANPOKEN). The symposium continued the tradition of regular meetings of Russian and Japanese experts to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries against the background of developments in the Pacific Asia. Discussions at the symposium focused on international relations in the region and Russia-Japan cooperation on security and economic issues, as well as on prospects of resolving political problems in bilateral relations.

The Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Socio-Political Studies held a conference on "The gobal crisis and its consequences: the aggravation of ethnic and sociocultural conflicts". The conference was organized by Prof. Evgheny Gontmakher, IMEMO Deputy Director, and Prof. Nickita Zagladin, Head or Center.
- IMEMO's lead researcher and head of Group on peace and conflict studies Dr Ekaterina Stepanova has joined the new editorial board (appointed for 2014-2018) of international peer-reviewed journal “Global Governance”. “Global Governance: A Review of Multilateralism and International Organizations” is published by Lynne Rienner and edited under the auspices of the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS).

The IMEMO deputy director Vasily Mikheev took part in the Inaugural Forum of Asan Institute for Policy Studies “Asan Nuclear Forum 2013” (Seoul, South Korea) and delivered a report “Dealing with a nuclear North Korea” at its plenary session.
The discussion at the Forum centered on the impact of the accident at Japan's Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant on public attitudes towards nuclear energy in Northeast Asia and on increasing support for non-proliferation regime in view of the recent developments in North Korea.

Kirill Rogov, Senior Research Fellow at the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy; Andrei Ryabov, Editor-in-chief of the academic journal «World Economy and International Relations and Alexei Arbatov, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Head of the International Security Centre at IMEMO RAN have presented their views on fundamental trends in Russia’s domestic and foreign policies.
- Was published "The Climate Change: Causes, Forecasts, and Consequences for the World Economy". This study explores the most important problem of this century, the dramatic climate change happening today, with particular emphasis on the events and research of 2007–2012 not covered by the Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
- Was published "Challenges to Security in Central Asia". The book is based on the results of the international conference - Challenges to Security in Central Asia, organized by the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of sciences (IMEMO RAN) and Foundation for Prospective Studies and Initiatives (PSIF) with the support of the Fund For the Support of Public Diplomacy by A. Gorchakov and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES in the RF) in the end of November, 2012.

Just published:
* monograph "Financing of the military preparations of the world’s leading countries". The monograph presents analysis of the problems associated with the financing of the military preparations of the world’s leading countries including Russia. The study covers a considerable period of time – from the early 1990s to the early 2010s.
* monograph "Current state and development trends of the international securities market". This paper deals with the recent trends in the international securities market. Essential part of the research is devoted to positioning international securities market into the global financial architecture and the role played by cross-border flows of capital resources in the formation of its key trends.
* brochure "The Prospects of Engaging India and Pakistan in Nuclear Arms Limitations". This is the tenth publication of the series titled - Russia and the Deep Nuclear Disarmament, which is to be issued in the framework of joint project implemented by the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) and the Nuclear Threat Initiative, Inc. (NTI). It is based on the discussion at the conference held in IMEMÎ RAN on October 18, 2012.
