IMEMO RAN and the Europe’s largest foreign policy and security think-tank SWP (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik – German Institute for International and Security Affairs, Berlin) held the international conference “Germany / EU – Russia: From Hydrocarbon Relations to a Modernization Partnership”, supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

Discussion Forum “European Dialogues” (Director of Research programs Arbatova Nadezhda) has held its seventh seminar “Post-March Russia: Scenarios” under the general theme “Russia and EU: values and interests.”
Evgeny Gontmakher, Deputy Director of IMEMO; Georgy Satarov, Head of the InDem Foundation and Dmitri Trenin, Director of the Carnegie Moscow Center, have presented their views at the seminar.
“European Dialogues” is a joint initiative of IMEMO RAS and non-governmental organization the Foundation for European Integration (FEI).

Group of experts from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam visited IMEMO. The delegation consisted of: Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Pham Thi Ngoc Bich, Minster Plenipotentiary of SRV Embassy in Russia, Mr. Nguen Minh Tri, Deputy Director of European Department, SRV Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Do Hoang Minh, Secretary of Deputy Minister, Mr. Nguen Hung, Advisor-Head of Political Department, SRV Embassy in Russia, Mr. Doan Khac Hoang, an expert of European Department, SRV Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the interpreter.
On the part of IMEMO, the participants included: Mr. V. Mikheev, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of Center for Asia-Pacific Studies, Mr. A. During the meeting, a number of issues concerning relations between the key global actors and prospects for global governance mechanisms were raised and discussed.

IMEMO RAN held the ninth conference (the first in 2012) titled “European Nuclear Weapon States' Engagement in Strategic Arms Control” under the joint NTI-IMEMO project "Russia and Deep Nuclear Disarmament".
The discussion raised a wide range of issues related to involving the UK and France in strategic offensive arms limitation and reduction.
The participants in the discussion engaged in a comprehensive analysis of the two countries nuclear programmes, current views as to the present and future of national nuclear arsenals and the prospects of involving London and Paris in the nuclear arms control. Besides, some proposals of practical importance were made.
The topic will be further discussed in the booklet that is currently being prepared and is to be issued in the Russian and English languages. The booklet will also be available at the IMEMO RAN official web-site. The release is scheduled for June 2012.

IMEMO Department of European Political Studies organized a case study seminar "Crisis in the European Union: Political aspects".
Participants gave their estimates of the impact the crisis has had on home and foreign policy of EU member-states, on EU's common policies and institutions. Future prospects of European integration were also discussed.

IMEMO RAN issues the first volume of a two-volume monograph “The political identity and identity politics” - “Identity as a category of political science: a glossary of terms and concepts” / Chief Editor I.S. Semenenko (Moscow: Russian Political Encyclopedia (ROSSPEN), 2011, 208 pages). The book presents the results of studies of Russian specialists in the field of identity – deliverables of the scientists from the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Socio-Political Research IMEMO RAS and other research institutes and university centers of Russia. The glossary is the first experience in conceptualizing science categories of political identity in the Russian political system, identity politics and other important concepts related to the analysis of identity in its political perspective.

IMEMO’s Director Academician Alexander Dynkin and Vice-Director Prof. Vasily Mikheev represented IMEMO at the ceremony of presentation of the Korean language version of the IMEMO fundamental monograph “Global Strategic Outlook 2030” at Lotte Hotel, Seoul, on Jan. 17th 2012. RF Ambassador to Rep. of Korea His Excellency K. Vnukov, ASAN Institute President Ambassador Lee In Ho (former RK Ambassador to Russia), Head of the translation team Prof. Kim Hyun Taek and his deputy Prof. Lee Sang Jun and other Korean and Russian scholars, journalists and diplomats attended the presentation ceremony. The translation of the IMEMO’s book, made by The Korean Association for Slavic Studies, has been initiated by the Korean side.
